The Codex Alimentarius Commission: The Facts That Everyone Needs to Know

Structure and goals of the Codex Alimentarius commission

  • CODEX Establishment. Established in 1963, the Codex Alimentarius Commission (CODEX) is responsible for creating global ‘standards,’ ‘guidelines,’ and ‘codes of practice’ for the food and nutrition industries. CODEX functions as the primary political instrument for controlling and regulating the global food and nutrient supply.

  • CODEX Structure. Among the 23 CODEX committees, each dealing with a different aspect of the global food trade, the so-called ‘Codex Committee on Nutrition and Foods for Special Dietary Uses (CCNFSDU) is easily the most notorious. The CCNFSDU is the key committee controlling all aspects of CODEX work relating to nutrition.
  • Role of Germany. Since its inception more than half a century ago, the CCNFSDU has been steered under the auspices of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany – the world’s leading export nation for pharmaceutical drugs. Behind the scenes, political stakeholders in Germany have been directing this committee for decades.
  • Corporate interests behind CODEX. The primary stakeholders behind CODEX are the pharmaceutical and chemical investment businesses. The biotech and industrial-scale agriculture industries also play key roles. Representatives from all these industries are regular attendees at CODEX The pharmaceutical investment business is based on patented synthetic drugs, with patent royalties determining the return on investment (ROI). Natural, non-patentable health approaches, including vitamins, nutritional supplements, and even vitamin-rich organic foods, pose a fundamental threat to the future of this investment business. Thus, the decisions taken at CODEX committee meetings are essentially protectionist measures to protect the global markets of the drug industry and its multitrillion-dollar investment interests.
  • CODEX goal: Global control. To protect its corporate stakeholders and strategically monopolize the global health and food markets, CODEX has been aiming at becoming a de facto multinational decision-taking body – outside the reach of national governments and beyond any democratic control.

Enforcing the global ban on natural health

  • CODEX plans for a global ban on vitamin therapies. From its beginnings in 1963, a key goal of the corporate/political interests behind CODEX was to strategically eliminate vitamins and other non-patentable natural compounds – substances that had already been established for decades as essential for optimum cellular function.

By 1963, the comprehensive health benefits of these natural molecules had been recognized by nine Nobel prizes and documented in essentially every major textbook of biology and biochemistry. Suppressing the established scientific facts about nutrition and human health was therefore not an easy task. It required a determination to effectively erase humankind’s awareness of the health benefits of natural health compounds by publicly discrediting them, discouraging further scientific research, criminalizing any health claims associated with them, and even outright banning unrestricted, public access to natural health approaches.

The key document summarizing the CODEX regulatory position in this field was published in 2005. Entitled the ‘Guidelines for Vitamin and Mineral Food Supplements,’ it mandates:

    • The setting of arbitrary low ‘upper limits’ on the daily recommended dosages of vitamins and minerals around the world, thereby knowingly impairing essential body functions, including a) tissue stability via collagen production, b) cellular energy supply via adenosine triphosphate (ATP) production, c) antioxidant protection against oxygen free radicals, and d) immune defense against viruses and other infectious agents.
    • A global ban on science-based natural health information. CODEX mandates prohibiting claims that vitamin and mineral supplements are suitable for prevention, alleviation, treatment, or cure of disease.
    • Restricting free access to science-based natural health. While categorizing supplements as foods, CODEX also specifically allows – and thereby encourages – the world’s governments to arbitrarily regulate vitamins, minerals, and other natural compounds as prescription drugs. This enables draconian control of these substances, restricting free access to lifesaving natural compounds for hundreds of millions of people worldwide.

Devastating consequences for the people of the world

  • The global consequences of CODEX. The major pharmaceutical export nations have vigorously promoted all these CODEX measures. This is because they are designed to facilitate the development and spread of diseases among the people of the world – a fact that can hardly be considered coincidental for an investment industry that has defined globally spreading diseases as the target market for its multitrillion-dollar investment business.
  • CODEX – creating the precondition for the coronavirus pandemic. With an optimum daily intake of vitamins essential for the immune system’s peak functioning, an artificially low daily nutrient intake – as mandated by Codex – is a precondition for infections to turn into epidemics and eventually pandemics. The global CODEX crusade against lifesaving vitamins, driven by Germany and other pharmaceutical drug exporting countries, is the single most crucial factor behind the development of the COVID-19 pandemic, including the devastating damage it has caused to human lives and national economies.

Codex: deception and bribery on a global scale

  • CODEX: Hiding its lack of legitimacy. To hide its lack of democratic legitimacy, the political/corporate interests behind CODEX also abuse sub-organizations of the United Nations. These interests are using the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) in an attempt to create the appearance that CODEX corporate protectionist efforts supposedly reflect the will of the people of the world via support from the United Nations.
  • CODEX and the role of the Brussels ‘European Union’. Another veil behind which CODEX tries to bolster its legitimacy is through support by the so-called ‘European Union’ in Brussels. This support by the ‘Brussels EU’ is used to create the impression that the entire European continent is united behind the CODEX In reality, however, nothing could be further from the truth. Headed by the unelected ‘European Commission,’ the Brussels EU operates as the global politburo of the pharmaceutical export business. Germany accounts for around 20 percent of global pharmaceutical drug exports and, together with a handful of other European countries, accounts for about 75 percent of these exports overall.
  • CODEX securing the participation of developing nations. Great efforts are being made by CODEX to ensure the participation of a significant number of developing and threshold nations at CODEX meetings. This is deemed necessary since none of these countries obtain any benefits from supporting the protectionist plans of a handful of wealthy pharmaceutical export nations. On the contrary, implementing CODEX-derived legislation in the developing world would make developing countries dependent on expensive drug imports – thus removing the only possibility for developing countries to provide effective and safe healthcare for their people via scientifically proven natural and nutritional health approaches. Therefore, CODEX is a powerful political instrument of pharmaceutical colonialism.

In this context, the so-called CODEX Trust Fund plays a crucial role in incentivizing CODEX participation among developing countries. The list of countries seen as eligible for support includes 47 African countries. The Trust Fund report presented at the Codex Alimentarius Commission annual meeting in 2019 shows that, not surprisingly, the Brussels EU and its member states were its largest donors.
  • CODEX and the manipulation of global public opinion. The two main arguments used by CODEX to hide its protectionist interests are a) the establishment of ‘international trade standards’ and b) the need for ‘consumer protection.’

In an attempt to marshal support for these arguments among countries and delegates attending meetings of the CODEX nutrition committee (CCNFSDU), as well as among the general public, key international gatherings of the CCNFSDU are often preceded by media reports about the alleged side effects of vitamins and other natural health approaches. These reports are launched, of course, completely contrary to the facts: natural health approaches are essentially safe, with hardly any significant side effects being reported. Meanwhile, every year, hundreds of thousands of patients worldwide die from the known side effects of taking pharmaceutical prescription drugs.
